Personal Finance for Tech Employees
I'm a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and the founder of Java Wealth Planning. I have a long background in the software industry and now focus on helping tech employees navigate their equity compensation and live a life that aligns with their values.
I'm a firm believer in living a life that aligns with your core values and creating a company that is focused on financial literacy, empowerment, and service is what that looks like for me.
I'm a podcast geek, an introvert, a die-hard Liverpool soccer fan, and a Peacemaker on the Enneagram. I'm married to my wife, Sarah, who works in special education. We have two kids, Anna and Sam.
Independent - I am not bound by particular solutions
Fiduciary - I am bound to always act in your best interest
Commission Free - No hidden fees. It's all right here
CFP® Professional - The standard of excellence for financial planners
Stock comp - What should you do with your restricted stock units (RSUs), incentive stock options (ISOs), or non-qualified stock options (NQSOs)? Should you participate in your Employee Stock Purchase Plan? We'll review your unique situation to come up with an optimal strategy.
Tax planning - Getting the most from your earnings means paying attention to your taxes. IRAs, HSAs, charity, tax-loss harvesting all affect your tax bill. We can go through a review to ensure that you are optimizing as much as possible.
Investments - I adhere to a highly diversified, low-cost investment strategy to create a plan personalized to your situation, values, and risk tolerance. The focus is on being disciplined, systematic, and only adjusting as goals change.
Cash flow planning - I believe that there is no "one size fits all" approach and will work with you to create a system that is easy to follow. Cash flow planning is foundational to your financial success, so it's important to ensure you have this covered.
Determine what is important to you & your family, and set out to live a life that reflects those values.
Retirement - First things first. What would you like your retirement to look like? Not all of us want to work until 65, then just sit on the beach and golf. Once we establish that, then I can help answer the important questions.
College - I can assist in selecting an optimal 529 plan for your situation, advise on investment selection, and project how much you will be able to cover - even for your specific school. Do your children attend a private primary school? We can plan for that too.
Estate - If you love your loved ones, you'll want to have your estate plan in order. Leave the legacy that best reflects your life well-lived.
Insurance - Insurance isn't exciting and it's not an investment, nor should it be. It's something we all need to have but hope to never use. I can help get you and your family the types and levels of coverage that best fit your situation.
